Science Welcome to St Edward’s C of E Academy Science Department!

What on Earth isn't science???

Our Science teaching offers opportunities for children to:

  • Develop knowledge and understanding of important scientific ideas, processes and skills and relate these to everyday experiences.
  • Learn about ways of thinking and of finding out about and communicating ideas.
  • Explore values and attitudes through science.

All pupils have three science lessons per week, taught by specialist science teachers, each lesson being approximately 1 hour long.

We have four purpose-built laboratories all with the latest interactive whiteboard technology. This gives our Key Stage 2 pupils a huge advantage over those pupils taught at a primary school who do not have access to such impressive resources and facilities.

The department endeavours to make the lessons stimulating and interesting, encouraging high standards and good progress.

Our Schemes of Learning will start to deliver the New National Curriculum for both Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3. These schemes are taught in modules to each year group. They are taught in rotation, so that we make maximum use of our resources. In years 5 and 6, pupils are taught in mixed ability form groups, and in years 7 and 8 classes are taught in ability bandings.

We offer extra-curricular activities in the form of Key Stage 2 Science club (at lunchtimes) and Key Stage 3 Science club (after school). A whole host of fun activites take place to broaden pupils' enjoyment and appreciation of science. We also run enrichment visits to places such as RAF Cosford and Keele University. Each year, we also enter the Salters Chemistry Competition.

The Science Staff: Mr N. Jones (Head of Department), Mrs H. Cunningham (2nd in Department), Mrs R. Manning, Mr J. Skelley, Miss A. Hall and Miss S Morgan  (Science Technician).
